Common questions
Why are there two Opportunity Zone maps?
The 2018 zones remain designated through December 31, 2028. A new round of designations takes effect January 1, 2027 under the 2025 law, drawn from a new list of eligible tracts. During 2027 and 2028 both maps matter, for different investments.
Why does the 2027 map show more tracts than will become zones?
The map shows every tract Treasury lists as eligible. Each state may designate only a share of its eligible tracts, so the certified 2027 map will be smaller than the eligible map.
